PROJECT OUTLINE
HOME Series X is a personal project made in 2020 about how any house could be fitted to become a smart home. It has no connection to any brand. My personal goal in this project was to further develop conceptualising, 3D modelling (Rhino), design research, engineering and rendering skills
CHALLENGE
The challenge was to explore how we might enhance people to get more control in their daily lives by providing humanised and personalised information. By seamlessly integrating smart devices into people their homes, we give them peace of mind through a system which focusses on, Privacy, Convenience, Considered / approachable and Empowerment / Efficiency whilst being used.
RESULT
The result of this is a family of IOT products that fits effortlessly into future and current ecosystem to provide actionable information to enhance our daily lives. The first product in this line is the the Home series X security camera which provides maximum security whilst focussing on being nonintrusive and seamlessly integrated into the household, all whilst respecting privacy.
RESPECTING PRIVACY
The Home series X is the new solution for personal home security. Simply screw in the bulb into your existing power socket and the device is good to go. The bult looks just like a normal lightbulb when the user of the product is in proximity and frosts the external dome to ensure that no filming can happen. But when no one of the users is around the glass defrosts and the integrated camera becomes visible and active as a security camera.
PRIVACY GLASS
The sphere is made from a glass that frosts when a small electrical current is passed through. The user can determine when the glass is frosted or defrosted to respect their privacy via an app, base it on time for example when a building is open or closed or choose to connect it to their smart devices (phone) which will recognise when the users of the product are in the proximity to switch between the frosted glass and transparent.
INTEGRATED solutions
The lighting is done through an integrated ring of LED lights which use a diffuser to spread the light evenly. Integrated in the Bayonet lock there are three pogo pins which deliver the electrical current to the external dome to frost the glass when in privacy mode. The body is made of aluminium which which functions as the heatsink as well through the integrated fins.
PLUG AND PLAY
One of the biggest hassles people face nowadays is that to integrate smart devices and security systems in their homes, large changes to the environment/ecosystem need to be made (Cables extra power, etc). The Home series X solves this by working on the standardised power sockets which are used all around the world. Simply screw the lightbulb into the socket and you are good to go.
