Juvo

Juvo is a wearable diagnostic and communication tool for paramedics. The use of a detachable sensor that can be placed on the patient’s finger helps the paramedic to constantly monitor the patient’s vitals, and communicate these directly to the hospital.

The main body includes a camera, which can be used to share visual information with the hospital in an easy and secure way. Because the Juvo is voice controlled, the paramedic is able to share the patient information with the hospital whilst keeping his hands and attention where they should be, with the patient.

Project outline

Juvo is the result of a 10 week long Human centered design design project at Umeå Institute of Design in 2016, developed in collaboration with Laerdal Medical.

My personal goal in this project was to further develop  user shadowing methods, organising workshops, design research, storytelling, and model making.

Challenge

Everyday thousands of ill or injured people are transported to an emergency department by air and ground ambulance services. These are stressful and hectic situations which lead to multitasking and risk of human errors with.

Currently the more sick a patient is, the less time Paramedics have to inform the hospital about their situation. This means that you have the least information about the patient when it is most critical.

Result

JUVO is a wearable diagnostic and communication tool for paramedics. The use of a detachable sensor that can be placed on the patient’s finger helps the paramedic to constantly monitor the patient’s vitals, and communicate these directly to the hospital. The main body includes a camera, which can be used to share visual information with the hospital in an easy and secure way.
